Welcome to Bethesda United Church of Christ
We welcome all without exception as we worship God together, journey in the spirit, and share our gifts with each other, our neighbors, and the world.
We are so glad that you have found us on the web and we hope that you will join us in person! Are you looking for a faith for these times? Are you curious about life? Do you wonder how to make meaning from the difficult circumstances that confront you? Are you looking for spiritual friends and companions for your journey? Gathered in 1957, Bethesda United Church of Christ has been a spirited and spiritual presence on the corner of Fernwood and Democracy and a visible presence in our community since 1960. One of our great joys is to share a relevant, vital, inclusive faith that will provoke thoughtful questions, meaningful life reflection, and a passionate love of God that translates to love for neighbor and a healthy love for self. Here, we gather together to strengthen our ties to the larger community, to each other, and to God. Here, we sing and pray our faith in eclectic ways, true to our Christian roots but recognizing the on-going revelation of God in Christ Jesus and in the beautiful diversity of our Creator.
IT’S AN ADVENT-FUL SEASON AT BUCC!
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 29 AT 3:30PM. HANGING CHRISTMAS GREENS At BUCC we traditionally hang greens and wreaths in the sanctuary and narthex and assemble a mitten tree in the parlor. The Advent wreath is prepared for use during services. Just like at home, favorite decorations are discovered anew each year. You are invited to help decorate the church on Wednesday, November 29 at 3:30pm. Many hands make the task lighter and accomplished quickly. We should be done 5pm. For more information contact the church office firstname.lastname@example.org.

There are jobs for all ages — unpacking figures, carrying stumps from the shed, unraveling lights, and best of all — creating a scene. We work in pairs for most scenes so that first time folks can learn from our experienced scene builders. If you have any questions, contact Martha Knouss. FALL CHURCH-WIDE DISCUSSION AND STUDY: FAITH AND IMMIGRATION. Our church has just completed a 6 week immigration study, but will continue the discussion throughout the fall and spring seasons. We will keep you posted of additional offerings and opportunities.
As disciples of Jesus, we seek to embody Christ’s extravagant love, and share this love with everyone regardless of race, gender identity, income, age, orientation, or disability. Our building is wheelchair accessible, we provide assisted listening devices, and produce large-print bulletins for our members and guests with diminished vision. We fly a rainbow flag near our doors to boldly attract the attention of passers-by who see that a Christian church is declaring its welcome to LGBT persons.
We are proud of our history on the forefront of progressive change whether it be marching on the Mall with Martin Luther King, Jr., making a commitment to reduce homelessness and hunger around us, or becoming an Open and Affirming church.

A Season of Joy
Christmas Celebration and Pageant
THE CHRISTMAS STORY TOLD WITH A BEAUTIFUL PUTZ AND PAGEANTRY
The Bethesda United Church of Christ Sunday school students will tell the Christmas Story, using an elaborately decorated Putz, as adopted by traditions of Pennsylvanian families drawn from their Moravian heritage. The Putz, which uses moss and tree stumps as landscaping for a beautiful backdrop for the nativity scene and other elements of Christ’s birth, is the centerpiece of this telling of the Christmas story.
Please join us for this joyous celebration on December 11, 2016 beginning at 10:30 am. Bethesda United Church of Christ is located at 10010 Fernwood Road, Bethesda, MD 20817. For more information, contact Rev. Dee Ledger at 301-365-3387 (phone). There is no charge for this event .
